Owners with more than one decision on the table.
A company earning $500,000 or more, an owner drawing significant compensation, a property or business sale in the next three years, or a family whose personal and business returns need to be planned together.
In the year a client sold a significant asset, planning done ahead of the transaction rather than after it saved more than $140,000 on the tax bill.
A hypothetical $340,000 projected liability reduced by entity structure, retirement design, depreciation timing and credits. Figures are illustrative; results depend on the business.
Tax planning, answered.
What is advanced tax planning?
Advanced tax planning is proactive, year-round work to reduce tax before decisions are made: entity and compensation structure, retirement and deferred compensation, depreciation and asset timing, income timing and credits, and planning around sales and exits. It differs from tax preparation, which records what already happened.
How much does tax planning cost?
Morrow & Co. quarterly tax planning starts at $1,000 per quarter. Business tax returns start at $2,500 a year and personal returns at $800, with all fees confirmed in writing before work begins.
S corporation or LLC: which is better for taxes?
It depends on profit level, owner compensation and the exit you have in mind. An S corporation election often reduces self-employment tax once profits pass roughly $80,000 to $100,000, but it adds payroll and reasonable-compensation rules. We model both before recommending a structure.
When should I start planning for a business sale?
Ideally 18 to 36 months before the transaction. Entity structure, asset classification, installment terms and timing all affect the tax bill, and most of them cannot be changed after the deal is signed.
Do you prepare the returns too?
Yes. Planning and preparation are done by the same team, so the strategies agreed during the year are reflected correctly on the returns.
